Perkins Builders have completed this amazing and unique ‘Design and Construct’ project for Perth Airport. The three new international gates provide passengers with an enhanced boarding process  and allows them to view the aircraft, runway and apron and the magical Perth Hills in the distance whilst departing from or arriving at Terminal 1 International.

The project included replacement of the stairs and single head aerobridges with new ramps and lifts at Terminal 1 International’s gates 52, 53 and 54. No longer do international travellers face the inconvenience of having to walk down stairs to get to their flights with the new aerobridges delivering greater efficiency for airline partners and a vastly improved boarding experience for passengers.

This extremely complex project was completed within a highly operational and high-risk working environment; whilst working airside and abiding to all security and sterile requirements; COVID provided another level of complexity and restrictions for the duration of the project.

The International Gate Upgrade Project was recognised by the Master Builders Association WA at the Excellence in Construction Awards being awarded the 2021 Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Performance Award: a pinnacle of honours for the commercial construction industry. This WHS performance is testament to both Perkins’ and Perth Airport’s commitment to workplace health and safety, zero harm philosophy and the effective management of WHS.

Perkins Builders are exceptionally proud of its project team and their extraordinary commitment and effort in completing and delivering such a complex and operationally high-risk project, with no serious or reportable injuries sustained for the duration of the project.

This project was further recognised at the 2022 by the Master Builders Association WA at the 2022 Excellence in Cosntruction Awards, being awarded the Best Public Use Building, $20-$50M. A fantastic result and testament to the commitment and effort of all involved in this outstanding project.
