In June 2015, Perth Airport Pty Ltd, were looking to engage with a Design and Build Contractor and their design team that understands and appreciates the significance and importance of the work to PAPL, the Client, and shares in the desire and pride to deliver a high quality expansion at good value. The chosen contractor must be cognisant that the works have to minimise any Airport operations and customer experience during construction.

In August 2015, after discussions with the PAPL, Perkins Builders were awarded the Design and Construct contract: T1 Check-in Expansion and Retail Precinct Development by Perth Airport Pty Ltd.The works are to carry out a full design based from the Client’s brief, and to construct the existing T1 departures façade which will enhance the Terminals’ front door to international passengers through the expansion of T1 Check In area, and the establishment of a new retail precinct. The work incorporates closing off part of the existing terminal with an 8m structural hoarding which has a suitable finish to allow the airport to use it for their advertising. The hoarding once erected segregates the public from the construction site to allow the demolition of the existing façade and canopies, which ultimately make way for the new more consistent façade, specialist retail tenancies and food and beverage tenancies.

Possession of the site was the October 2015, with works being phased for completion in three separable portions by September 2016.
