Located on the picturesque Koombana Bay, the Dolphin Discovery Centre is a tourist icon in Bunbury, providing a home to nature research programs, education opportunities for local schools and a great place for families to get up and close with dolphins in their natural habitat.

The Redevelopment has turned the centre into a year-around attraction, aiming to increase visitors to the region. The existing building was incorporated into the design and expanded significantly to enhance the interpretive experience, providing a state-of-the-art aquarium space with interactive exhibits. The external screens tie together the old and the new visually, symbolising the local indigenous story of children being swept away by the ocean and their spirits returning with the dolphins to console their families. Internally, the interpretive centre includes 12 aquarium exhibits, café, administrative offices and function centre.

This project was awarded Best Commercial/Retail Building and Excellence on a Challenging Site at the at the 2019 Master Builders – Bankwest Building Excellence Awards South West.
