The expansion and upgrade of the existing Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park was selected as the venue to host the historic Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2011. Known as the State Reception Centre the venue caters for 750 people at a cocktail function or more than 500 for a seated meal. The project involved building a permanent, high quality function centre on the roof of the existing Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park. The extension includes a large open function area, two kitchens, toilets, balcony and landscaping.

Construction methods include a structural steel frame, full height external glazing, fabric roof, external copper cladding, internal timber wall panelling, and curved bulkheads to box out the mechanical and electrical services.

The build only construction contract was awarded with only a couple of sketches in existence.  This project was therefore the ultimate example of fast tracked construction with only two months preparation time before site possession. The project was completed and handed over 12 days ahead of programme and under budget.
