The South West Health Campus Critical Care project involved the expansion of the existing Emergency Department over two stages in order to provide the hospital with a new, state of the art facility to aid in the care of emergency patients. The first stage was the establishment of temporary ambulance bays and enclosed walkway providing access to the existing Emergency Department on a 24/7 basis and the construction of a new, two storey 1,775m2 Emergency Department.

The second stage followed after completion of the stage 1 and occupation of the new Emergency Department, this works comprises of refurbishment and alterations to 737 m² of the existing Emergency Department by creating a new ten bed Short Stay Unit and a new fast track area for the Emergency Department.
